About Egyptian Railways  

The first railway road was made in Egypt on the 12th of July 1851, and started working after the Suez canal opening ceremonies in 1854, during the ruling period of khedive Ismail Basha and under the supervision of the English engineer Robert Stevenson, the son of the famous train inventor George Stevenson.


The railway network measures approx 6700 km, 4872 km of them are non stop, while the rest are stations and block points.
The railway network joins the whole delta, it also connects most of the inhibited and economic points like harbors on both the Mediterranean and the red seas, together with all the cities in a huge network of extended modern railway roads, ally equipped to operate all types of high speed trains.

The ENR offers the transportation services in 2 methods, people and merchandise, aiming by this to cover all people expectations and demands.

As for the transportation, ENR offers a high speed trains, with 2 degrees (1st and 2nd), all air conditioned, it also offers turbine trains (Cairo/Alex road), sleeping trains (available all year for upper Egypt and summer only for cairo/matrouh road).It also offers a high speed express trains with all its degrees along with normal and local passengers trains with less speed.

As for merchandize transportation, ENR offers 2 services, urgent delivery of goods on passengers’ trains and delivery on special transportation trains that are continually supported with new equipment.

ENR beside all that supports people with limited income; it offers special trains for 2nd and 3rd degrees with low prices.

ENR is one of the serving sectors in the ministry of transportation, and is a working member in the Railways International Union, it is also a member in the Arab Asian Railways union, and an active member in all its sessions.

ENR employs 86000 persons in various fields, who are highly taken care of through training indoors or outdoors sessions; it provides them with social and health insurance and many other services to ensure the utmost satisfaction level for them
